All: O, come; let us sing to the Lord;
M: Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
W: Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving
All: For the Lord is a great God, in whom I trust.

Confession

Our Heavenly Father, we are in new year now. we desire very much to turn our lives to a new page. We are full of hope and dreams again. When we look back on the previous year, we had our share of toils and troubles. We had been weighted down by all kinds of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, slander. Now, we lay them aside. We invite you into our new year, giving us a heart of wisdom, bestowing your favor upon us, establishing the work of our hands, and guiding and teaching us your paths and your ways. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Scriptures

Exodus 12:1-3

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. (NIV)

Ephesians 4: 22-24

22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (NIV)

Thoughts to share Happy New Year

On the eve that the Israelites were leaving from Egypt, their Savior instructed them that their coming out from the Egypt land would mark both their own new beginning in life journey and the beginning of their new year. On the road after coming out the Egypt, God continued to unfold his new plan for them.

Firstly, they would experience a miraculous saving act of God- out of terror, out of oppression, out of threats, out of destruction, out of bondages, out of impossibilities. Secondly, they would have to get rid of the idols and lifestyles from Egyptian culture that they had become so accustomed to from living there in bondage. Thirdly, they would live out a new lifestyle with new set of values that God had prescribed. Fourthly, they would come into the full protection and blessings of God through his covenant.

God’s saving plan for Israelites began with their obedience to God’s instructions: each family would take a healthy lamb and use its blood to cover the door frames of their house. In the New Testament, Jesus is the Lamb of God for all in sin. His blood gives us a new beginning.

At the beginning of the new year, we come to Jesus Christ again. Let him cleanse and renew us. Let us honor Him as the Lord of our life and our existence. Let us be mindful of his teachings. We will walk in his ways, turning away the old hang-ups. Let us come into the protection and blessings under his covenant with us.

Prayer suggestion:

Do you desire a newness in your life and your existence? Were you under any bondage, oppression, threat, terror? Have you taken a stand in God’s only son Jesus Christ- the Lamb of God- in your life? There is a hope. In Christ, he gives peace, liberty, delivery, protection. Your life and existence will be different!

Dear God, in the beginning of the new year, we truly desire to turn a new page in our lives. Lead us to put the past behind and to deliver us from the old things troubling us. Come, we surrender ourselves before you. Come, lead us in your love, wisdom, protection. With you, we will write a new page in our lives in this year. Thank you, God. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
