Mini-Worship

Oct.8 - 13, 2024

Take a few deep breaths and center yourself and quiet down

Entering the presence of God

( from Psalm 25)

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame.

4 Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
teach me your paths.

5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.

6 Be mindful of your mercy, O LORD, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.

Adoration Prayer:

Into your presence, O God, I sense your gracious love shining upon me. Thanks for allowing me to behold your beauty in such a revealing way. I adore you. I praise you. The time in your presence has become my strength of my days. Thank you for carrying burdens with me. In Jesus' name.

Confession:

O, Lord, I feel that I have a stony part in me which was selfish, narrow, defensive and resistant. This part of me has hindered your best will to me. I come to ask not only your forgiveness but also your rescuing. Come, sit on the throne in that part. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Scripture Reading

2 Corinthians 1:3-11 (NIV)

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. 8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters,[a] about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

Thoughts to share

There are all kinds of sufferings in our world. God's children in this world suffer also. How to face these difficult moments and situations? Paul pointed out a few ways-

Firstly, remember that our God is a God of compassion and comfort. He promises to comfort us. He is willing to give all kinds of comfort around us. This is a sure hope He has promised to us.

Secondly, God knows to surround us with those people who just know the kind of comfort we need. He expects us who experienced His comfort to go forward to comfort others also. The purpose He gives us comfort is to equip us to give the comfort to others. Being in a support group can be a way experiencing God's comfort.

Thirdly, Pray to God. Praying helps and makes a way for us.

Fourthly, Be inspired and encouraged by those testimonies which testify a living and working God amid our troubles.

God's salvation was in the past, is at present time, and will be in tomorrow. He is a living God who has power over death. At the most difficult moment when we do not feel any certainty, look up to God. He is our forever rock. It is by His unfailing grace that we live by.

Prayer

Have you ever experienced God's comfort? Have you ever seen the people struggling around you? Are you looking for comfort?

Compassionate Father, our God of comfort, thank you for your ever-living saving promise. You have called us into your kingdom and your righteousness. We trust that you will be faithfully and capably preserve us, sustain us, and give us just right kind of comfort. May your Spirit move and hover among us, raise up those who bring comfort to others. May you graciously comfort those who are in sufferings. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Benediction

May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
