Mini-Worship

June 11-16, 2024

1. Center yourself and enter into the presence of God

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
3 he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff —
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
my whole life long.

2. Adoration Prayer:

God, my great shepherd, you are great. Yet you came to me. You received me as yours. You made me. You are with me. You lead me. You protect me. You provide me with food and drink and comfort me. You use your goodness and mercy to surround me, and you bless me. I want to give thanks to you. I want to praise your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

3. Confession

The most merciful and loving God, I must confess that you are too great to comprehend. That is why oftentimes I did not think of you a lot. I simply went my own way. Forgive my little brain, narrow mind and insensitive heart. Truly, I want to know you more, feel you more real. Please use your loving kindness and faithfulness to guide me, lead me into that genuine faith toward you. I pray in Jesus’ name.

4. Scripture reading

Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

5. Thoughts to share

Do you know why we go to worship God? Do you know how we worship God? Do you know why we worship together? This Psalm shares two very basic important things about worship.

Firstly, we worship God because He is our maker. We belong to Him. He fully knows us. Just like that we all need a home to return after a long wander in the world, we all need that most original home to return to find belonging, to find acceptance, to find love, to find fix, and to find rest. The earthly home often disappoints us because our parents are oftentimes imperfect and weak people. But this most original home is a perfect one. The host of the home is God Himself. He will not disappoint us. So, we can always go into His presence with gladness and with singing. We can shout. We can laugh. We can dance. We can talk dearly and openly.

Secondly, we worship a God who has a covenant of love with us. His love is sure and steadfast. He is faithful to keep that covenant with His people. He intends to be good to us. So when we come to worship God, we can always come with confidence. He promises that in worshiping Him, he will forgive our sins, faults as soon as we confess and return to Him, He will help us in many ways. He will defend us and give righteousness to us. He will hear our prayers and grant answers to us. He is always ready to lift us. So, keep in mind that you are expecting a good God to you when you go worshipping Him. To such a good God, we can only give thanks and praises.

Next time when you go worship with others, forget our human imperfectness. Fix your eyes on God. Worship God with understanding and trust. May you experience God’s blessings toward you.

Prayer suggestion:

Examine your worship understanding and attitude; confess and receive new revelation

O, My Lord, I long to worship you. I desire to worship you with gladness, thanksgiving and praising you. Please set me free from misunderstanding of worshiping you (examples: guilt, please…). Guide me into the joy of worshipping you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

6. Benedictions

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.
